That's annoying.  Looking at the tarball, it's the classic mismatch
between configure (via libtool.m4) and ltmain.sh - they've come from
different versions of libtool.

I must have only fully rebootstrap xapian-core from the look of it, but
as omega and xapian-examples don't build libraries, they're probably
OK despite having the mismatch.

Could you try using the CVS snapshot tarball of xapian-bindings (no need
to update xapian-core) and see if that fixes this?

If it does, 0.8.3 may be out rather soon, so if anyone else sees
problems elsewhere, let me know sooner rather than later...
