In an ideal world I would.

The issue is that because of how SWIG works I'll have to actually
reimplement the old names to "keep" them.  So if everyone is happy
with the idea of just making the change, I can save a bit of time and
effort which can be applied elsewhere.

I'd had the same thought myself.  It really needs to be automated
though, otherwise the two will just end up disagreeing.
