[Xapian-discuss] java bindings

Ok, I installed "xapian-core-devel" and now I'm having problems with gcc:

./configure CXXCPP=/usr/bin/cpp CXX=/usr/bin/gcc --with-java
[lines deleted]

config.log has errors like this:

gcc --version reports:

gcc (GCC) 4.1.1 20060525 (Red Hat 4.1.1-1)

I don't have a lot of experience compiling C++ projects on Linux.  Is 
there something wrong I'm doing here?
