That's better. But still, if the bonnie++ results are representative for 
i/o-depending xapian performance, it doesn't surprise me that a 
development machine with a single ide/sata disk can outperform your 
heavier duty server. Especially if it has to keep relatively more stuff 
in its memory than cached parts of the xapian databases and/or has other 
disk reads to handle as well.
