If modifying %install doesn't achieve anything, I'm not sure what to
suggest (my initial thought was to add "pwd" to it).

In 1.0.2, I replaced "%makeinstall DESTDIR=..." with "make install
DESTDIR=..." to avoid the bizarre situation of some files having a
double prefix, but that shouldn't cause this - looking at
/usr/lib/rpm/macros, %makeinstall just calls "make install" with
prefix=..., exec_prefix=..., etc.  There's no "-C" option passed
and no "cd" command.

Perhaps Fabrice has some ideas?

Cheers,
    Olly
