Somehow I managed to only check in the ChangeLog entry as revision 8770,
but snapshot 8775 or later should do the trick.

That's actually very useful - I can write SWIG stuff and small Java
feature tests, but I don't have any real world code to test the new Java
bindings on.

Realistically, we probably aren't going to be able to exactly reproduce
the old JNI API, but it would be useful to know what to focus on
keeping the same, and what doesn't really matter, or could actually be
improved upon.
