I had a similar problem when my test pc was running out of memory on long
runs (4 hours +) The pc only has 2 gig of memory.  I just saw a gradual
increase in memory then when some documents would not index.  I think
XAPIAN_FLUSH_THRESHOLD was the solution for me.
