[Xapian-discuss] Debian and Ubuntu packages of 1.0.17

I uploaded packages of 1.0.17 to Debian unstable more than a month ago, and
also updated the xapian-backports PPA on launchpad:

https://launchpad.net/~xapian-backports/+archive/ppa

But more recently and more notably, I've now uploaded backported packages for
Debian 5.0 (the current stable release, codename lenny) and Debian 4.0 (the
"oldstable" release, codename etch) to backports.org:

http://backports.org/

There are instructions there about how to install packages from the
backports.org repo.

The 5.0 backport was accepted about a week ago, and seems to have built for
most architectures. The 4.0 backport has only just been accepted, so it
may be a few days until it is available for much other than amd64.

I'm not intending to update the Debian 4.0 (etch) backport for every
release as people should be planning to migrate off it soon (Debian's
policy is to support the previous release with security updates for about
6 months after the next stable release which means March 2010). I mostly
updated it because someone asked, and also because the package versions
weren't in step, so you couldn't install xapian-omega if you had the
xapian-core backport installed.

I'm hoping to update the Debian 5.0 (lenny) backport more frequently.

For Xapian 1.2, I'm planning to drop the backports for Ubuntu 6.06
(dapper) and Debian 4.0 (etch) completely, as the time it takes to
maintain them could be more usefully spent.

Cheers,
    Olly
