[Xapian-discuss] Can Omega be used as an OpenSearch engine for Windows Federated Search?

I run a linux file server. However, Win7 clients complain that it
lacks a search function. So I hope that I can install xapian-omega on
the server, and integrate that with Win7.
It seems that MS has for once tried to make this easy. It is a
two-step process. The server needs to run an OpenSearch 1.1
web-service. And the client needs to register to the service by
reading an osdx-file, which is a small, static xml-file that describes
the web-service.
MS has docs here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd742958%28VS.85%29.aspx
Now, Omega has an OpenSearch 1.0 template. But the following comment
isn't encouraging: "The opensearch template isn't really finished - it
was more a quick hack to see how fiddly it would be."
That mail is three years old, and nothing much seems to have happened
since then.
If anyone has tried something like this, please share your experiences
(negative/positive).
Thanks,
Rune
