 It seems the mechanism which is supposed to clean up filedescriptors used
 to communicate with child processes has been broken ever since I added it
 (just under 2 years ago)!

 The attached patch fixes this, and I think should fix the testsuite for
 you - can you please try it and report back?

 If it does, the bug is definitely only in the test harness, so you can
 safely package 1.0.13 with or without this patch.
