 I believe this was the "make check" issue fixed by r15674 after 1.2.6 was
 released, but sadly I didn't write a great !ChangeLog entry.

 The fix was backported to the 1.2 branch (r15765) so the current snapshots
 from that branch should work:

 Can you confirm?  No need to worry about using the newer xapian-core from
 there, just the newer xapian-bindings (though you can use all newer if you
 want).
