Comment:

 This might have some merit in bindings or client libraries, but I'm not
 convinced its useful in the main library. Mostly, I'd like to point out
 again that if the database is in fact closed, the reference to that
 database is dropped. I'm going to move this out of the library API and
 into bindings for further consideration.
