 I've integrated this code with the geospatial code in Xapian, and done
 considerable cleanup now.  My integration work is in a "geotomerge2"
 branch in my xapian fork on github.  To see the differences compared to
 current master, go to:

 https://github.com/rboulton/xapian/compare/master...geotomerge2

 I believe this code is now ready to be applied to master; I would welcome
 review, particularly of the interfaces in the public header file - given
 the impending GSoC summit I understand that may take a couple of weeks,
 but am keen for it to go into trunk before it bitrots again.
