 Hello,
 I tried to compile xapian from svn and got:

 bindings/python'
 test -d xapian || mkdir xapian
 /bin/sh ../libtool  --config > libtoolconfig.tmp
 . ./libtoolconfig.tmp; cp $objdir/_xapian.so xapian
 cp: cannot stat `.libs/_xapian.so': No such file or directory
 make[4]: *** [xapian/_xapian.so] Error 1
 }}}

 Explicitly configuring with  --enable-shared=yes doesn't seem to change
 the result. I am using the latest python2 in arch (2.7.2).
