Comment:

 It appears that perl 5.16.1 adds a '.' at the end of this error message
 which wasn't there with older Perl versions (confirmed with blueness on
 IRC), so I've adjusted the regexp to optionally allow this in trunk r17039
 and 1.2 branch r17040.
