 The link to Stevens is just to the latest (I believe) Programming in the
 UNIX Environment, so the index of any edition should yield the same
 (limited) passage. The quote was from the OS X man pages.

 Catching the signal & doing something suitable should also work on eg
 Linux where RLIMIT_FSIZE is set lower than expected?
