Comment:

 The packages were accepted into debian backports, so if you enable
 stretch-backports (see https://backports.debian.org/Instructions/) then
 following the instructions in the FAQ but replacing `xapian-bindings` by
 `xapian-bindings/stretch-backports` should work.
