[Xapian-devel] Unable to install Xapian-Ruby binary

Charlie,

After installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable from the following URL, Ruby module got loaded
and seems to be working (writing database, stemming, etc). This problem is now solved.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=32BC1BEE-A3F9-4C13-9C99-220B62A191EE&displaylang=en

Did I miss reading about this requirement from ruby binding's 'install guide'?

Another interesting thing: zlib1.dll seems to not matter if it's installed or not. I removed zlib1.dll from all 3 directories
I mentioned previously and 'xapian' module still loads.

Thanks much for your help.

-Martin

I've tried this now and it works here. I'm wondering if the problem is
nothing to do with Xapian, there's a thread here:
http://www.mail-archive.com/watir-general@googlegroups.com/msg02513.html
that talks about problems with the win32api gem. Also, please try
re-installing the Visual C++ 2005 redistributable as mentioned here:
http://db2onrails.com/2007/10/23/solving-loaderror-14001-driver-errors/

Could you try what these threads recommend and let us know the results?

Thanks

Charlie
