[Xapian-discuss] problem building xapian core

Hi everybody, I'm new to xapian and trying to build it for the first time
I'm getting the following error

In function `Xapian::open_stub

undefined reference to `ios virtual table'

I have the following system
FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE
gcc version 2.95.3

also I don't have root access , do i have to be root to build xapian?

any help will be appriciated
